What defines being American? What defines being American? What defines freedom? What defines you as a man, as a husband, father, worker, member of society? These questions elicit millions of possible answers. For those of us here, one aspect of our definition lies in owning, riding, and indulging in the passionate freedom that our American Ironhorse provides to us. For me that indulgence is my most freeing part of my life. As our nation celebrates 236 years of existence, founded by people that were seeking to practice their Christian beliefs freely, one can merely see the irony that abounds in the way things have developed for our nation over the past 382 years since they first landed. There are people and groups that have forgotten this part of our history and rather than embrace it they seek to remove it. It has happened already with the ceasing of the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and continues with seeking to remove “In God We Trust” from our money. These groups of people fail to realize that there is no expectation for them to be believers, merely a request for respect for the way the nation was founded, for the souls that gave it all to provide them the freedom NOT to believe, and embrace the amazing dynamic that we as a nation have become. Having served this nation for the past 19 years I knew the day I signed I was waiving my First Amendment Rights and many others to protect this country at its core. It is humbling still to this day to not be able to publicly vent and exercise those rights. It is more humbling to see violent criminals get free education, television, three square meals a day, better fitness facilities then I have as a member of the Special Operation community even after 12 combat deployments. It is humbling to see the American people duped by this administration and every politician in the Congress; truth-be-told, it is difficult to have faith in the people I protect after this magnificent error. We are being actively attacked by our own government. They seek to make the military pay more for health care. When I first came in we did not, then Bill Clinton introduced Tricare, now they want us to pay more while we ration health care for our citizens and give it to illegal aliens. They want to do away with our retirement. They are forcing a downsize in the middle of a war that is not over. They refuse to listen to how things really are from those of us that have had our boots on the ground and know more about our enemy than we do our own wives and children. The beautiful thing is that the American people are behind us this time unlike what my brothers in arms had to endure after returning from Vietnam. The scary part is that the only force that can stop Socialism from taking root is being weakened from the “inside”. Congress was meant to be a service, not a profession. In times of war veterans should be the majority in the House and Senate because NO ONE wants an end to war more than the people that have lived it. Want resolution that will last? Put the ones that have invested in there. Heck, the way things are now, most of them do not even have children that serve, much less have served themselves. The Secretary of the Army…not ONE day of military service, he dodged the draft. How did he get that job? Honestly this rabbit hole goes on and on, but I digress…MY American Ironhorse is the equivalent of your everyday. It is the one time when I am free; of mind, of body, and overflowing in spirit. I can let go of my demons, get back to my roots, and remember the importance of service. I am ever grateful to the Greatest Generation (WWII era vets) for providing the best example of the lengths we should go to for freedom against oppression no matter how it is disguised; as well as every generation before and after them that made our nation as strong from the inside as it is today. Thank you for allowing me the honor to serve, one day soon I hope we will share some freedom on the open road…
